CLUB RESOURCES

The RFU provides guidance and resources for all rugby activity organisers on what needs to be in place to create a fun and safe playing environment.

Please take the time to read the Reg 9 guidance for universities – we hope this clarifies any concerns institutions may have about the requirements for pitchside/ team first aiders. We recognise that universities may have their own practices in place, and want to take a pragmatic approach –

The principles are :

Safety is dictated by a risk assessment and every institution must have a risk assessment which can be produced if requested by us, or a visiting team.
It is the responsibility of the home team to have EFA cover in place articulated in the risk assessment (this may be staff for example and the EFA identifies how they are reached at the facility).
If the club are unable to provide evidence of their RA upon request this should be reported to universities@rfu.com. It will not impact the validity of a BUCS fixture.

Player Safety Guidance

Universities have a responsibility towards the health and safety of players, staff, and volunteers. The regulation 9 guidance describes the measures clubs are required to take.

Headcase

Recognised as one of the UK’s leading concussion awareness and education resources, the RFU’s HEADCASE programme aims to increase understanding and provide information on concussion and other related topics, including how to prevent and manage suspected concussions.

RugbySafe

RugbySafe, supported by Simplyhealth, is the RFU’s overarching player safety and wellbeing programme, putting player welfare at the heart of the game and covering how the game should be played and managed to ensure that rugby is as safe as possible.

Activate

Activate is an injury prevention exercise programme that can be integrated into training and pre-match sessions. Exercises are designed to improve functional and core strength, balance and agility, helping players with the game’s physical demands.

Women and Girls Healthcare

The Women and Girls Health and Welfare toolkits are a range of resources covering aspects of health which female rugby athletes and their coaches should consider when planning to take part in any rugby related activity.
