The Students’ Rugby Football Union (SRFU) has renewed its commitment to supporting the Men’s England Students representative side for this season to play long-standing rivals France Universities away on 24th May 2025.
Last year it was another nail-biter fixture between the two sides at Butts Park Arena, which saw France claim a 42-48 victory for the first time in three years.
This year, the England Students side will be returning to the scene of their historic win in 2023; as they take on France Universities in what promises to be another classic clash of the University version of ‘Le Crunch’ at the Stade Beaudry Stadium in Terrasson-Lavilledieu.
Player nominations for the England Students programme are now open and close at 5pm on Friday 14 February 2025. Find out more information about the nomination process.
England Students Women
In addition to the men’s programme this year, we are very excited to explore the opportunity of establishing an England Students Women’s programme.
We are currently working with colleagues across the RFU, British Armed Forces Rugby Unions, Universities, and key stakeholders. We hope to announce the next steps in this process in due course.
It is a particularly exciting year for women’s rugby in England, with a home World Cup on the horizon for the Red Roses in a tournament that promises to be a transformative moment for the Women’s game.
Furthermore, with the establishment of Women’s BUCS Super Rugby, the university women’s rugby game is going from strength to strength with the quality of performances and support for teams on a positive trajectory.
SRFU Trustee Katy Storie said: “Women’s university rugby continues to go from strength to strength with almost 60% of all players within the PWR either current students or have studied at university.
“It is vital that we make sure they are in a position to showcase their maximum potential and ability, and we look forward to seeing the role England Students might be able to play in supporting this aspiration.”
It promises to be an exciting year here at the SRFU for our representive programme, and we’d like to thank the continued support of our members, partners, trustees and volunteers.
