The Students’ RFU (SRFU) are delighted to welcome Freen Mehdi as their latest volunteer to join the organisation.
Freen Mehdi joins the SRFU as the new Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Lead (EDI), working alongside fellow volunteers to continue to drive positive change within the university game and beyond.
With over a decade of experience in EDI, Freen brings her expertise in strategy and leadership development. Freen has worked in various roles across the education sector in both colleges and universities. She currently holds significant positions as Trust Appointed Governor and EDI Advisory Board Member for the King Edward VI Foundation in Birmingham. Freen will work with key stakeholders across the game, including the RFU, BUCS, university staff and students.
Freen said: “I am thrilled to announce my new role as the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Lead at SRFU. As the sport of rugby continues to attract diversely rich communities, I am excited to channel my passion for EDI to build upon the commendable work already undertaken in promoting inclusivity.
“I believe that fostering an inclusive culture and sense of belonging both on and off the pitch is pivotal for the future of the game. I look forward to being a part of SRFU’s ongoing commitment to create a more diverse and equitable rugby community.”
Patrick Craig, Honorary Secretary at the SRFU, said: “We’re delighted that someone with Freen’s extensive EDI and organisation development experience is joining the SRFU. The university sector is hyper-diverse, and it is more important than ever that our work to bring new players into the game and retain existing players is needs-led and fit for purpose.
“Freen has a unique EDI background that includes both strategic change and hands-on delivery. We look forward to her new perspective on what we are doing and where we can evolve our EDI thinking.”
